Best
Quote from last Gathering: Well I don’t have a best quote from the last
gathering. Here’s one I found on the internet from John Stewart.
“Thou shall not kill. Thou
shall not commit adultery. Don't eat pork. I'm sorry, what was that last one??
Don't eat pork. God has spoken. Is that the word of God or is that pigs trying
to outsmart everybody?” - Jon Stewart
November
Thursday (11/10, 7-9pm) – Satan's Critique of Church-State Separation
by Clark Moeller. Oceanfront Library,
What would the Prince of Darkness have to say
about the Constitutional Principle of separation between religion and government?
What might His Supreme Wickedness think about billions of tax dollars channeled
without oversight to faith-based groups, and current efforts to spirit vouchers
through Congress beneath Katrina’s petticoats? Clark Moeller has some devilish
ideas about what the Dark Prince is cookin’ up. He’ll present his appraisal in
a dramatic reading of his work “Satan’s Critique of Church-State Separation”
at the Oceanfront Library on Thursday, November 10th from 7-9pm. The
event is free, but seating is limited. RSVP now!

Last Month
October was a busy month. Really!
There was so much going on that I can’t begin to write summaries for it all. Of
course, there were the regular Meetups. However, if you
weren’t tuned in to FAVA or TAG you missed out on Game Night
(TAG), Dinner and a Movie at Cinema Café at Greenbrier (FAVA),
Einstein and Beyond (SRHR), Penny Ante Poker
night, A talk by Ellery Schempp (HRSepCnS), and a
pre-Halloween outing to Busch Gardens. Oh! And Matt Edwards
(aka AtheiStar) converted to Evangelical
Christianity.
Special Note
On October 14th I had the honor of introducing
Ellery
Schempp as the first speaker enticed to our area by the Hampton Roads
Separation of Church and State Group. Mr. Schempp dazzled the small audience
with his views on Separation and on a few topics in physics, in which he holds
a PhD. He fielded a slew of questions with grace and eloquence.
The only downside was attendance. Despite ads in
newspapers, fliers posted about town, email entreaties to various groups and
organizations interested in Church-State issues (including Regent University),
we only had a couple of dozen in the audience, which appeared even smaller in
the spacious sanctuary of the Unitarian Church. I can only chalk it up to our
inexperience with getting the word out in the right way to the right people at
the right time. All-in-all thought, the glass ended up a bit more than
half-full.
So what’s next? Well like Atheists everywhere, I
will not shrink from this challenge. I’m crawling right back into that foxhole
and I’m breaking out the big guns. That’s right. SATAN IS COMING TO
TOWN!
